Centre for Ageing Better;
This guide from UK-based Centre for Ageing Better is designed as a practical tool to support organisations in communicating about aging and older age.Ageism is widespread in society and can be found everywhere from our workplaces and health systems to the stereotypes we see on TV, advertising and in the media.In the UK, ageism is the most prevalent form of discrimination amongst all age groups, with one in three people experiencing age-based prejudice or discrimination.The way people currently talk about ageing and older age is largely negative. To change this conversation we need to stop reinforcing these beliefs – and tell a new story. Small changes to the ways that we speak and write about ageing and older age, if applied consistently, could have a big impact.The authors hope this guide gives people the confidence to challenge ageism and champion positive and realistic representations of ageing and later life.Click "Download" to access this resource.

Feeding America;
In this report, we provide a broad overview of the extent and distribution of food insecurity among individuals between the ages of 50 and 59 in the United States in 2021, along with trends over the past decade and a half using national, state-level, and metropolitan-level data from the December Supplement to the Current Population Survey (CPS). This study complements the annual report on senior hunger from Ziliak and Gundersen (2023).We concentrate on two measures of food insecurity: food insecurity and very low food security (VLFS). These are based on the full set of 18 questions in the Food Security Supplement (FSS), the module used by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to establish the official food insecurity rates of households in the United States. We define food insecurity by three or more affirmative responses and very low food security as eight or more affirmative responses in households with children or six or more in households without children. All VLFS persons are also included in the food insecure category.

Ageism, the denial of basic human rights of older persons, is one of the most pervasive prejudices across human society. Although ageism is less acknowledged than racism or sexism, it is a harmful prejudice that negatively affects older Americans, who experience widespread mistreatment, ranging from stereotypic and degrading media images to physical and financial abuse, unequal treatment in the workforce, and denial of appropriate medical care and services.

AARP Illinois;
People over the age of 50 are a key demographic in Illinois, making up a third of the state's overall population. Older Illinoisans are also well-represented among Illinois' lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer (LGBTQ) community. Of the estimated 506,000 LGBTQ adults in Illinois, about one-quarter (24%) are over the age of 50.AARP of Illinois is proud to stand with SAGE as well as with our colleagues at Equality Illinois, Pride Action Tank, Center on Halsted, and RRF Foundation for Aging, to present a new, ground-breaking report – Disrupting Disparities: Solutions for LGBTQ Illinoisans Age 50+. Although a key part of Illinois' rapidly growing elder population, LGBTQ older adults remain largely invisible. Though resilient, LGBTQ older adults face significant disparities that are rooted in discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, racism, a lack of legal and social recognition, a reliance on chosen family, reduced access to inclusive services, and other social determinants of health and well-being. Disparities are often compounded and thus even greater for the estimated 1 in 5 LGBTQ older adults of color. The recommendations made in this report are equally critical for 50-plus LGBTQ Illinoisans, many of whom are older adults of color.Click "Download" to access this resource.

Perry World House, University of Pennsylvania;
As space technology evolves due to increased private- and publicsector investments and due to the accelerated pace of innovation, Perry World House hosted a oneday workshop to discuss the novel challenges and opportunities that have emerged at this critical point in the "New Space Age." This new age is characterized by a diversity of actors beyond the nation-state— actors that have greater accessibility and fewer barriers to acquiring a footprint in space. As participant Xavier Pasco of Fondation pour la Recherche Stratégique wrote in his workshop contribution, "Space was born from the Cold War and from the promotion of national interests with the prevalence of foreign policy considerations." The New Space Age has expanded the map to include private actors and "new technological processes and innovative modes of industrialization and commercial exploitation."

Milken Institute;
This report is a first-of-its-kind, data-driven index that measures and ranks the performance of 352 U.S. metropolitan areas in promoting and enabling successful aging.Unlike many "best places to retire" lists, the Milken Institute starts from the insight that most Americans want to age at home and in place, and not uproot themselves from their communities. In effect, the Best Cities for Successful Aging Index is an x-ray that reveals how well U.S. cities are providing the infrastructure, amenities, and opportunities both to serve and benefit from the country's fastest-growing age segment.
